We use nickel at levels well within current legal and safety limits. Our policy is that all our new devices are free of nickel on the product surfaces.
About RoHS Directive
RoHS stands for “the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment”. The European Union’s new legislation restricts the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and two flame retardants in all electric and electronics equipment.
RoHS legislation in the future
Nokia’s follows the precautionary principle in its material management. The Nokia Substance List (NSL) expresses our view on the need for and application of the precautionary principle for the specific substances relevant to our business/industry.
Packaing
At Nokia we have long recognized that an effective way to reduce the environmental impact is through smaller and smaller sales
packages. For many years one of the main principles guiding our packaging design has been sustainability and innovation. Already
in 2006 Nokia introduced small, compact packaging which consequently has become the industry standard for mobile phones.
Our compact packages are made of a single material, which makes them much easier to recycle.
